Old news February 2007
2007-02-26
It was Oscar night, and here's the Oscars 2007 timeline,
preliminary version.
- Very nice introductory monologue by Ellen DeGeneres. Unfortunately, after that,
her material wasn't that good.
- I liked the clips they did, I usually do.
One can see the effort that is poured into them.
- The montage with Morricone's movies was the exception—instead of using his
best works, they used the ones nominated for their score.
They actually did a Morricone music montage without the music from Once Upon a Time in the West,
Once Upon a Time in America or Giu la testa.
That's... just... bad!
Why did Celine Dion sing?Apparently I missed that her song was meant as a tribute to Morricone, who likes her. Oh, well.
- The producers tried their best to keep people from reading laundry lists of names,
unfortunately, some of the winners didn't get that.
- Pan's Labyrinth wins award after award... but doesn't get Foreign Language Film.
Unusual. Then again, Germany wins. Yay!
- Scorsese finally gets his Oscar, from his fellow we-got-big-in-the-'70s director friends
Coppola, Lucas and Spielberg. Nice touch.
- Hudson and Whitaker are among the few with emotional acceptance speeches.
- The Departed for best movie, Mirren and Whitaker as leading actors are all no surprises.
All in all, good show!
